We’re in a partying mood at Taurian Films, I suppose as we shall soon continue on the story of Party Girl.

But she can’t stay a little girl forever and Party Girl is growing up and growing in RAVE. Rave is a short film coming soon, that will transition from high school years to college years and beyond for our hero.

Party Girl, of course, is the story of Rachel Buchanan, a high schooler who in order to get out from under her mother’s thumb, she becomes a vigilante, protecting the streets of Pyramid City. Along the way she learns that being a hero is more than just putting on a mask and jumping out into the night.

PartyGirl3

Jeanne Lampley, season one Party Girl.

She was a character that began as Marvel Comics fan fiction when I was 15 when they did the Heroes Reborn comics and rebooted Bucky as a female character. The more I wrote stories on her the more I liked her and wanted to make her my own so I started detaching the elements that tied it to the Marvel universe and filling them in with my own and making her into a wholly original entity, thus becoming Party Girl.

PartyGirl

Cait Pool kicking ass in season two.

I tried to bring her to life in college and managed to film one scene of it before things went off the rails. A handful of years ago I managed to produce the first season with Jeanne Lampley in the lead role She did a great job though she had to leave us after the first season was complete. Taking up the mantle for the second season was Cait Pool. A very talented actress who brought spunk, attitude and physical skills to the part. She was not afraid to mix it up when the time came for physical stunts and we appreciate her for her enthusiasm and commitment to the role. After the second season Cait left to venture to LA where she is an amazing actress, hustling, working hard and still as humble as they come.

So what to do with a third season was the question. The season has been written and though filming will not occur it may be revisited in the form of audio dramas. I am a HUGE fan of the work Big Finish does with Doctor Who and other various titles and I would like to dip my toes into that and see what kind of work I can produce by doing it. And it’s a way to still tell the story and not leave it unfinished as we have had more than one person asking us in the years since season two, if there will be any more Party Girl.

alicia

Alicia Underwood

With Rave, there will be. The plan right now is just the short film, but depending on the response, we could see more adventures from an older Rachel Buchanan. I have already come up with a handful of ideas for those adventures. Stepping into Rachel’s shoes is Alicia Underwood, a talented Texas actress I first saw in the Rack Focus short, Birthday Girl. Alicia is amazing in that and through other projects and her audition for Rave, we have seen her acting chops on display and we think she will be great as Rachel. She seems game for the short and the character and had positive things to say after watching both seasons of the show to prep for her audition and participation in the series. We have already begun to look at the costume and how it can be updated for an older Rachel and over the next few months we will work on assembling that. Updates, info, costume tests and such will of course be posted so be watching for that.

Shrinking Things

Great Cast

Great cast/crew, just great people to be around.

Shrinking Things is undergoing a slight tweak before it is submitted to a handful of film festivals we have checked off. This will be the first short we have really thought was good enough to submit to festival. It’s gotten great reaction and laughter from the two screenings it has had so we feel good about our chances. The cast was exceptional and while there are a couple technical snafus, we feel its still good enough to garner some positive attention from various fests. We will see what happens.

Cheerleader Karate School

CKS on Amazon
The pilot episode is of course on Amazon Prime and we want people to check it out. Work is ongoing on the feature script. We have landed our new Keegan Fox in Cassidy Gatlin. She’s a Dallas based actress taking classes where Cait Pool used to, so we know she’s coming from good stock.

Cassidy Gatlin - Headshot 6

A few of our UK fans have been asking about more CKS content and we’re working on bringing it to them and others. Pages are continually being completed on the CKS / DUSK crossover comic. Definitely can’t wait for people to see that.
Keep eyes peeled to www.facebook.com/CheerleaderKarateSchool for more information on that and the latest updates.

Legacy cast on set Sunday.

It’s another Taurian Tuesday coming off of a busy Sunday helping Fred Tee out with his short, Legacy, that features fairy tale characters as demon hunters. It was a fun shoot and fun getting to work on other people’s sets to see how they run things and handle themselves and their actors to pick up any pointers for mine.

Tiffany Hoa on set

Some cast members were people I have worked with before like the always amazing Mike Loud, and others I have seen a lot of but haven’t worked with yet like John Charles Dickson. It was a good time though that saw me in a tree to get a shot. Whatever it takes to get the job done I say. Ideally everything works out in post. We got in a bit of a time crunch a couple places being backed up against call times for some actors on other sets and dying camera batteries toward the end of the day, but things worked out. Definitely dig the concept of what Fred is doing and hopefully it can take off.

Perky Chicks and Roundhouse Kicks!

Cheeerleader Karate School
On the subject of demon hunting, which is one thing CKS is about it was good to get a chance to talk to Tiffany Hoa, who played a witch in Fred’s short film. Tiffany is also slated to play a role in CKS. In our original plan for the series, she was going to play one of the past cheer team members who comes back for reasons. In the feature she will play the same role and in the same capacity but we will see her before she comes back in the last battle that is the reason the team is disbanded at the start of the film. CKS is still on Amazon, Youtube and now on Sparkk TV for people to check out and see what the concept is about as we work to retool it a bit.

20 Minutes or Less
We’re casting for 20 Minutes or Less as we retool that series. The first of the trilogy is set to shoot May 21 at what we have affectionately come to know as Mabrey Studios. It’s the home of the Mabrey family. Jenni Mabrey of course known to us as Evelyn Buchanan in the Party Girl series. Jenni opened up her home to us last time for the shoot and is willing to do so again which is awesome. But she is an awesome individual and talented actress, so it’s natural for her.

Cait Pool as Season 2’s Party Girl.

Party Girl / Rave
Speaking of Evelyn Buchanan, Jenni will be dusting her off for a short film that will time jump Party Girl from where she is in the season two finale to a handful of years later. We’re looking for the older Rachel now. It will be a nice and tidy short that will set us up for anything we may way to do storywise as in live action form, I wouldn’t want to do high school PG without Cait Pool involved. I suppose I guess unless we got a lot of money to produce more. Folks who have not seen Party Girl can catch it on youtube (of course) as well as Sparkk TV, a site that aggregates web series for people to discover and view. Also the first season of PG is on BlackFlag.TV with episodes playing daily. Working on getting the second season on there. For more info on Rave folks can email or give a like to www.facebook.com/PartyGirlWebSeries.

In the Hopper
Plenty of projects are in the hopper. A few of them, HTB and Get In will star Annie Cruz in lead roles. We are determined to do and finish Insourcing. We had contemplated a gender swap just to be different since it had not worked in three incarnations with the roles as guys so we wanted to change it up and see what would happen, but things fell through with the actress we planned to take the lead with it. So we retool and we move on. Too many ideas to do and no desire to let the action or more importantly the inaction of others deter from our goals. It’s a grind and that’s OK we will continue to do so, learn, get better and will get to the top.

OK, well not really but we did turn in our entry into this round of Rack Focus, Shrinking Things. Now there’s a couple things with it. Bj edited the Rack Focus cut of the short in place of his brother Jermaine who had some things come up to where he would not be able to. Now Jermaine will cut the final cut of the film which will actually be 2.5. minutes longer than the Rack Focus cut which had to be 10 minutes or less.

Telisa Kyle and Allan Thomas of Shrinking Things.

Now the film turned in can be viewed just fine and viewers will be none the wiser that is it missing about two jokes from it, but indeed it is. Before submitting it to wider places, the full cut will be done and done by Jermaine. It’s still a funny short as Allan, Telisa and Mike did an amazing job and kept the dialogue flowing in the script which called for a lot of dialogue in one location. Will be curious to see the response to it from the audience.

Cheerleader Karate School

On the CKS front we’re still trying to get people to see the pilot and see the potential in the concept. The episode is available on Amazon Prime, Youtube and will soon be available on Sparkk TV, a web series gathering site as well as any other site we can put it on to get eyeballs on it and hopefully the eyeballs of people who see what CKS could be with some funds through at us.

Perky Chicks and Roundhouse Kicks!

Work continues on the feature script, with season one of the series being retooled a bit as the film script takes one of the concepts and villains from the first season to be the threat in the film.

20 Minutes or Less

Nearly ready to roll on that and excited for what the trilogy can be when it is filmed in its entirety. Wen-cheih Chi is ready and raring to go in the lead role of the series and Bj is ready to take lessons learned from shooting the Rack Focus Round 3 entry and other shoots since then to make this one the best it can be and get some results we were not able to get before in the previous shoot.

For more information check the FB page: www.facebook.com/20MinutesOfLess

Party Girl

Party Girl The Series will get some more eyeballs on it we assume as just like with CKS, Sparkk TV will be showing both seasons of the series. Of course we wished it could have continued but we did not want to do anything without Cait Pool in the lead role and we weren’t going to be able to get her back in the saddle unless there was some actual money and status behind it. Though we have found an idea, a way to carry on past Party Girl. More details of that to come in the next few months.

For more information check the FB page: www.facebook.com/PartyGirlWebSeries

Various Projects

There are a number of projects being worked on, scripted and such chief among them DadBodies, a comedy, Sand in My Cubicle, a comedy series, HTB, an action drama starring Annie Cruz and Get In, an action short also set to feature Cruz.

Lots to do and hopefully the right people at the right time will see what’s going on and want to jump in.

Rounding up a few things going on with Taurian Films at the moment…

Party Girl:The Series, starring the immensely talented Cait Pool and a host of other talented Texans, received a nomination from the 2016 Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase: Best Domestic Drama – MicroShort. The nomination alone is nice. Of course Bj Lewis hopes for a win, but still it shows that the work of everyone, the time, energy, sacrifice and talent from everyone went into making a product that was worth while.

An episode of the show will screen at the showcase in a few weeks. Details to come.13458615_1224474317565612_1010919644760187953_o.png

The crew is waiting out a few summer vacations for cast and crew members to get back in the saddle of filming the pilot. Creator Bj Lewis is also bringing in a DP that is experienced with the Canon C100 that Bj has long wanted to begin filming his productions on. It will give him a chance to get out from behind the camera and focus soley on directing the action going on, which he has also wanted for a while now. So things are going to work out there.

20MinutesOrLess.Still002

Gabby in 20 Minutes or Less.

Rack Focus Round 4 is nearly upon North Texas and Bj has an idea already for his entry. Well, he had a number of ideas, but the most recent one, a sequel to his Round 3 entry, 20 Minutes or Less. Bj has written a third part as well to complete the 20 Minutes or Less trilogy. The idea of course is to keep doing more action shorts to up his game in that area, which will only serve to improve things going forward particularly for Cheerleader Karate School.

Speaking on CKS, while the majority of the cast members have martial arts experience, the newest edition to the cast, Timylle Adams, does not have all that much. Timylle is playing Tyesha Banks. That roles has gone through a few changes in recent weeks but Bj is confident Timylle is the one who will take the role to the next level. Now to help her with her fight prowess, Gabriella Corvina (Fi Espinoza) has volunteered her time to give Timylle private lessons to help her get up to speed. This will be especially important since Fi and Tyesha’s conflict and fight scenes are a high point of the series.

13495169_1040061252752313_8216134928684276139_n

Timylle training.

It’s looking like the crowdfunding campaign for the first season will kick off in September to coincide with Bj’s efforts to have CKS a part of the Seed & Spark New Voice Rally. Prizes for it include finishing funds for web series. Who knows what can happen there. The main thing is looking high and low for sources of funding that can help make the show happen.

Saturday was another great day as anticipated when Kerry McCormick was added to the project. Kerry is an accomplished actor, martial artist and all around great person. Of the small number of folks met thus far that years later is still as real as they were from Day 1.

Making notes on the scene. Planning the magic.

Coupled with the talented Gabriella Corvina and you have the makings of a dynamite scene and from what the ladies put together already, everyone is going to be talk about their scene. Of course we wish it could have gone on longer but Rack Focus films are only to be 10 minutes long so we needed an intense two minute throw down from them. Gabriella will be throwing down with other people along the way, so will she make it out alive? Who knows. You will just have to check things out when the screening happens.

We wanted to produce 20 Minutes or Less for Rack Focus Round 2 but things happened with our planned lead at that point. Of course things happen for a reason they say. And who knows if we would have come in contact with Gabriella or the other talented people connected to this project had it not been delayed?

We are a week away from auditions to fill out the rest of the team for the upcoming project Cheerleader Karate School. We already have two of the main five ladies cast, one of which is of course Gabriella, the other is Christine Rejcek, a budding actress and trained martial artist. Looking forward to those auditions that, barring any last minute issues, will have Gabriella and Christine onhand to participate and read with the actresses so we can get an early feel on chemistry for the group. CKS is something we are proud of and think in this day and age of franchises for TV shows and movies, we think it could become a successful one.

Gabriella working out fight stuff with Kerry for 20 Minutes or Less. She’s going to bring that same enthusiam to CKS.

The first couple episodes have been written and will be broken down in order to gauge an average budget per episode to add to our business plan as we seek funding to make it happen.

We are working on marketing/promotional ideas as well. We are planning a web comic tie in that will take place a bit before the timeline of the show.  Trying to think of swag that we can offer to people in support of the project beyond the obvious t-shirts. Speaking of those we are going through the ND T-Shirt Company, a local Denton business, for our shirts. We have seen the proofs for CKS shirts and we are definitely looking forward to getting them produced and out to the masses. We hope to have everyone in place cast wise so we get get promo pics done in time to do some grassroots promotion at a few local comic book conventions. Of course everything comes down to money, at first anyway and what we can afford to start with.

A past pin up sketch for HTB. Annie has lent her likeness to the main character for the book and plans to star in the film adaption.

Work is ongoing on the HTB teaser for our graphic novel/film project with Annie Cruz. Jermaine is out in Cali putting the final touches on that. In the meantime people can and should be liking the facebook page or following on twitter @HTBMovie to stay up to date with the latest information on the project.

Party Girl: The Series is still gaining attention from people who have not seen it before. Which, by viewcounts, is a lot. Hopefully this trend will continue and more people will check out the show as it’s as good today as it was last year when we produced it.

Our Suicide Squad fanfilm, A Typical Tuesday is still in post. Probably a month or two longer before it drops. We are still contemplating a screening for it, or if we just drop it online. Hopefully people will enjoy the short which was just made by fans for fellow fans of the soon to be box office record breaking Suicide Squad.

Sunday was a good day at MDF Studios in Cedar Hill.

MDF Studios

MDF Studios is the family dojo of Gabriella Corvina, the uber talented young actress we were fortunate enough to land in the lead role of WINNIE for the 20 Minutes or Less short film for the Rack Focus Round 3 competition. As stated before, we have shot action, but we really wanted to improve on things and have a better end product when it comes to our action scenes. A big part of that of course is organization, planning and practice. The meeting Sunday was to get with the actors involved in choreographing and rehearsing some of thing action to be seen in the short.

Gabriella and Isadora working out their scuffle.

May 7th will get here sooner than we know it so we have to get the work in. The main fight scene will have to wait until we can get Gabriella with Kerry McCormick, but we were able to plot out a few other things that go down. I hope to scout to location prior to the next time we meet to really tighten up the choreography before filming. That way I can get exact measurements and layout of the place so we will be able to see where the actors can and can’t go.

Bella and Gabriella working things out.

It’s always fun and exciting to see people really buy into your script and your project and willing to do what it takes to make it happen. That’s what I saw on display Sunday with the cast/crew I was blessed with. I know it will make for a fun short.

But don’t just take my word for it. Check out what they had to say about things….

Check a clip from our upcoming short fanfilm, A Typical Tuesday.

It’s 2016.
Our goal is to get more eyeballs on Taurian Films. To get more people talking about Taurian Films, more people watching Taurian Films and making better effort to build and expand the brand.
Both brands actually, as there are two to build, Taurian Films of course and Jigsaw Entertainment, which I am building with my brother, Jermaine Spencer, as we carry out dreams, goals and plans we have had since we were kids.
To that end we have a handful of projects on our plate for this year that we are working on getting to the masses including:
SHIFT, a fantasy/adventure series that involves the open source character Jenny Everywhere.  Will have more on that tomorrow as we hold auditions for a couple of the main characters.

A Typical Tuesday, a Suicide Squad fan film currently in post. We delayed that from its original December release date due to wanting to fix some of the sound issues with it. That’s been a problem in productions past so we wanted to do what we can to ensure the two short episodes sound the best they can.

Suicide Squad

A shot of some of the cast for our Suicide Squad fanfilm, “A Typical Tuesday” coming this Spring.

Of course some people like fan films, some people hate them. They are also in discussion with the big boys filing a suit against a filmmaker for his group’s Star Trek fan film.

Cheerleader Karate School, Perky chicks, round house kicks and evil demons. We hope to create a fun, funny and action packed supernatural, martial arts dramadey.

-S.L.E.E.P.E.R.S., a black ops themed action drama series I am working on with my brother, Jermaine under our Jigsaw Entertainment banner.

AnnieUs

Wrapped after a long but fun HTB teaser shoot.

-Hard Target B*tch, a graphic novel and film staring Annie Cruz as an assassin for hire who gets in trouble with the feds and has to turn to the internet friend she vowed to never meet in person. We’re using Annie’s likeness for the book and she will be starring in the film. Keep a look out for the fundraising campaign for this project to see you can help us make it happen.

Of course we still faithfully bang the drum of Party Girl: The Series, our beloved indie super series.

It stars Cait Pool and a host of other talented Texans as we tell the continuing story of Rachel Buchanan, average girl turned masked crime fighter.

PG Poster Pic

Cait Pool, Party Girl for season two!!

The stakes get raised due to the friends she has made, enemies she has crossed and what is going on at home with her family. Not everyone makes it out alive this season, so be sure to get caught up with season one on BlackFlag.TV and Roku owners on MaddyG TV. Check season two online and on MaddyG TV coming later this month.

In addition we have a few other comedy projects in the early writing stages. At the latter half of 2015 there was some feet dragging in the creative stages of these projects, but we have redoubled our own efforts to make sure projects get plotted and scripts get done as we think we are sitting on some very good projects. Projects that can be made with a relatively minimal budget, tell a good story and address the agenda laid out above in getting more people looking at, talking about and buying into the brand.
Lots to do but we are eight days into 2016 and off and running.
